"But there are always new ones coming in"
by Farkel inif you've read, seen and heard as many sickening statements uttered by watchtower leaders as i have, you'll probably agree you tend to get jaded by them after a while:.
russell claiming his books were more important than the bible.
rutherford boasting that armageddon coming in 1925 was as certain as the flood of noah and virtually "indisputable.".

by yadda yadda 2 ini believe there are 500 or so official members of the watchtower bible & tract society.
these are the ones who attend the annual meeting of the watchtower society.
they appear to be like company shareholders.. who are these individuals and why are they apparently anonymous?

"10 The Society’s seven directors were faithful Christians. But their role in a legal corporation might have suggested that they owed their positions on the Governing Body to their being elected by legal members of the Watch Tower Society. Furthermore, by law such membership and its voting privileges were originally granted only to certain ones who made contributions to the Society. This arrangement needed to be changed. This was done at the annual meeting of the Pennsylvania corporation of the Watch Tower Society held on October 2, 1944. The statutes of the Society were amended so that membership would no longer be on a financial basis. Members would be chosen from among faithful servants of Jehovah, and these have come to include many serving full-time at the Society’s headquarters in Brooklyn, New York, and in its branches throughout the world.
Thank you for this quote.
So basically the 500 voting members are mostly Headquarters and other Branch cronies, all with thoroughly vested interests in perpetuating the status quo and their positions. You can imagine the nepotism going on.
"Statutes of the Society" - what are these? Who has the power to amend them?
And I repeat my earlier question, slightly rephrased: who grants the right to be a voting member? What is the process?
Does anyone on this forum actually know?

144,000
by thebigdebate inwould the average jw think that the number of 144,00 was a literal number, even if the partakers were over 144,000?
or would they just go with what the gb says?.
i think that they would say that it is figurative literal number.

God has a secret Man-Crush on Satan.........
by oompa inhere's why i say that.......it's like they are a couple, and god wants to break it off...but is having a really hard time doing so...... 1. garden of eden...satan starts trashing god, calls him a liar, and gets a couple to turn away from god....so this screw up (oh interferes with) gods big plan......and he doesn't zap satan?...he doesn't even punish satan?...he just curses snakes and takes their legs away??....fishy.
2. big meeting in heaven...in job i believe......and there is satan...still hangin with his homies.......no prob says god....just stay up here and corrupt a ton of my other angels...oh and go on down there and bitch slap job all you want...just don't kill him ok buddy?.
3. so thousands of years go by....satan is happily recruiting his demonz in heaven....and hey...since he is getting away with murder...why not kill gods own son?!?

Thanks, but if they are all approved by the GB and they hold no influence or power over the organisation, what purpose do they servce? What is their function?
How do they get to become voting members?
AllTime Jeff: do you mean the Charter of the Watchtower Corporation empowers the voting members to vote in the board members, or do you mean the GB vote in the "members"? Your statement is not clear. Can you clarify the relationship between the "Ecclesiastical Governing Body", the "Board" and the "Voting Members".

Deconstructing Apostasy - New Video
by Moxie inmy apologies for not posting this here sooner, but i've been swamped with a very big project... one that i will share with you in the not too distant future.. this is my most recent youtube video and addresses a subject i've identified as extremely important to many of us ex witnesses.. it's called deconstructing apostasy, and basically it examines apostasy according to watchtower... my hope is that the message will start to break down the barriers of what an apostate is and how the watchtower uses that term to effectively subjugate its members by silencing any conscientious questioners.. hopefully you'll be able to see it below, otherwise here's the link (it's best viewed on youtube in high definition) - deconstructing apostasy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3j5hkv2cnw.

It's good, although there are no scriptures. If you focused more on the scriptural requirement for Christians to test religious teachings (eg, Rev: 2:2 or the noble-minded example of the Borieans) the clip would be more cogent.
